Have you been struggling to get more visitors to your website or blog?
If you have, this article is for you. In this article, I’m going to share with you a simple hack that you can use to grow your website traffic tenfold.
And no, it doesn’t involve trying to find new keyword opportunities to rank for or hit or miss link building tactics. Instead, this simple hack involves find out what keywords your website already ranks for, even if they are small, and then finding longtail keyword variations of those same exact keywords.
Next, you are going to use those longtail keywords to generate more traffic by including them in the posts that are already ranking for the main keyword. This will help your post go more in-depth on the topic related to the main keyword and thus help it rank higher.
Here’s what I mean, if for example, you are already ranking for the term “Guest Blogging” Google will easily rank you for all the other longtail variations of that term such as:
- What is a guest blog?
- Benefits of guest blogging
- Does guest blogging work?
- How to find guest blogging opportunities
The reason it’s easy to rank for all these other longtail variations is because it’s usually much harder to rank for the main keyword than its longtail variations.
And even if the majority of your traffic comes from a longtail keyword such as “How to build a website” there are still lots of variations of that longtail term that you can create your content around such as:
- “How to build a website free”
- “How to build a website using html”
- “How to build a website using python”
- “How to build a website for beginners”
Let’s get started!

Step 1: Use Ubersuggest To Find Out What Keywords Are Driving Traffic To Your Website
The fastest and easiest way to find keywords that your website is already ranking for is using Ubersuggest.
Ubersuggest is a free content marketing tool owned by Neil Patel, a leading content marketer. It helps you get a higher Google ranking by making it easy for you to find lots of keyword opportunities within a few minutes.
To find keywords that you can use to grow your traffic, go to Ubersuggest and type in your website’s domain name and click search.
Ubersuggest will show you an overview of your domain including organic keywords, organic monthly traffic, domain authority, and total backlinks pointing to your website.
Next, you need to click on Top Pages on the left sidebar.
This will show you a list of all the top pages that are driving traffic to your website.
To view all the keywords that are driving traffic to a particular page, click on “View All”.
This will display a list of all the keywords each page is ranking for as shown below.
Step 2: Use Google Search Console To Find More Ranking Keywords
Google Search Console, just like Ubersuggest, will show you all the terms that are driving visitors to your website.
Login to your Google Search Console account, click on Performance on the left sidebar and scroll down to view a list of keywords your website is ranking for.
The video below explains more about the use of Google Search Console.
Step 3: Find out all the longtail variations of the Terms you are ranking for
To find the longtail variations of your keyword, go back to Ubersuggest and click on the Keyword Ideas tab on the left sidebar.
Next, type in the exact keyword phrases you got from Ubersuggest and Google Search Console reports one at a time.
Note: Type in only the keywords that make sense. Not all keywords provided by Google Search Console and Ubersuggest will be worth targeting.
Ubersuggest will generate a keyword ideas report that shows you all the long term variations of that term.
For example, if you’re ranking for the term “increase website traffic”, this is how your results will look like.
You’ll find that if you rank for the main keyword, there’s a whole lot of other longtail term phrases that can also generate a lot of traffic.
For example, if your ranking for the head term “increase website traffic” the longtail variations that you would take note of and use to grow your traffic would include:
- “increase website traffic free”
- “increase website traffic organically”
- “best ways to increase website traffic”
- “how to increase website traffic through SEO”
- “how to increase website traffic using social media”
While these longtail phrases may not make up the same amount of traffic as the main keyword, each can generate a fraction of the traffic.
But when combined, these terms will generate lots of traffic to your website, sometime even more than the main keyword.
Step 4: Update Your Content And Include The Longtail Variations
Once you have your list of longtail variations, go back to the post that’s ranking for the head keyword and update the content to include the various longtail variations.
You should try to use the longtail phrases in your H2 and H3 sub-titles and in your sentences as well.
Ensure you are providing a ton of value to your readers and that you’re going above and beyond to answer all the questions they may have.
This will ensure that once they land on your website, they don’t have to go back to Google to search for more answers on the same topic.
Once you do that, within about 30 days, you’ll notice that the page will start ranking for all the longtail variations.
This is because once you are ranking for the head term, it becomes much easier to rank for the longtail keywords related to the head term.
Repeat this process for all your other posts and over time you’ll find that your rankings and traffic to your website will increase significantly.
While this method involves lots of steps, you can simplify it by creating a checklist like the one below:
